Addressing Student Motivation, Self-regulation, and Engagement in Flipped Classroom to Decrease Boredom

2016

The interplay teacher regulation and student self- regulation of learning is an important topic in contemporary theories of teaching and learning. The pervasiveness of the boredom experienced by many students, along with its deleterious effects, clearly implies that educators, and teachers responsible for the design of academic settings should pay more attention to this emotion. With regard to the prevention or reduction of boredom, the present findings suggest that specific measures could focus on increasing the perceived values of activities in achievement settings. Nella ricerca sono state utilizzate differenti metodologie, tra cui un inventario sulla percezione degli studenti e l'osservazione delle pratiche di insegnamento, per indagare se ed in che modo gli insegnanti riescono a gestire la noia in modo div…

Child-centered versus teacher-directed teaching practices: Associations with the development of academic skills in the first grade at school

2016

This study examined the extent to which child-centered versus teacher-directed teaching practices predicted the development of children's reading and math skills in the first year of elementary school. In addition, we investigated whether associations between teaching practices and children's academic skills development in Grade 1 differed among children who had low, average, or high initial academic skills at the beginning of school. The reading and math skills of 1,132 Finnish children from 93 classrooms were assessed at the beginning and end of Grade 1, and the Early Childhood Classroom Observation Measure (ECCOM) was used to observe teaching practices in 29 classrooms. The results of mu…
